How to...cable cast on with different colours?

Hello
My pattern calls for the following cable cast on:

24sts - CC1, 4 sts - MC, 4sts -CC1, 4sts -MC, 4sts - CC1.

I know how to cable cast on with a single colour.
What is the method with different colours?

I think it’s the same… just drop the old color yarn, and pick up the next stitch with the new color :??

Thanks for your reply.
My question is more specific: do i cast each colour on seperately (then knit into colour on first row) or is there a way of knitting colours together (other than using a slipknot)???
