I am learning to pay more attention to my gauge. However, my gauge only seems to work if I go up 2 needle sizes. Is this normal? I don’t think of myself as a tight knitter. It’s fingering yarn, going from a size 4 to a size 6 needle.
Welcome to KH. I would go up one or two sizes and see how that worked, then up or down as needed. I’d knit enough with each size to get a fair idea of the true gauge before going on to the next.
ETA rather than cutting the yarn or doing a bind off or pulling out the stitches I would do a row of knits on the purl side to separate the rows done with the different size needles.
Thank you. I just wanted to make sure it was OK to go up 2 sizes. That seemed like a lot to me. Thanks also for your recommendation to not bind off on swatches. I’ll use that in the future!
