How Long is the Foot?

:waving:My son’s foot measures 11 inches from heel to toe. How long should I knit the foot of the sock if the toe part is 2 inches long? IOW what’s the negative ease for an 11 inch foot?

I would take the measurement of the toe and the measurement of the heel (from the turn) and subtract that from 10 inches (if his foot has stopped growing) or 11 inches if he’s still growing. It really all depends on the give of the sock. I have several pairs of socks that have very little give so I make them to measurement. Other socks (especially lacy ones) have more give and I play around with it, trying them on until I get them where I want. (And yes; I have broken several bamboo dpn’s doing that but I haven’t learned yet!)
