How hard would it be?

I love the Ragna pattern in Viking Patterns for Knitting.
But honestly I am not big on pull overs.
How difficult would it be to make this into a cardigan instead?

Barring that, how difficult would it be to use the same cable pattern in a cardigan of simplified design?

Thoughts appreciated!

You can put the cable design on a cardigan. You’d just have to play with your gauge since cables pull in and require more stitches than a st st cardigan would, for example. You could also convert the Ragna pattern. Just divide the front in half and add an edging.

It looked like that was possible to me too. But in the photo the model has a bit of a weird twist and the instructions dont actually tell you how many “tabs” to make. Or I missed that part.

I may mess around and see if I cant come up with a cardi just using the same cable and other design details.

That models twist really has me worried. The sweater must be too big for the model. As she is probably at least 5’9" then the design would swamp me! (5’ tall)

But then again - I have a tendancy to believe I have to reinvent the wheel.

:rofling: I agree about the models, especially in this book. It’s like they posed them to make the sweaters look like they fit.

Check out the guy on page 75.
“Hey pretty boy…nice socks ya got there” :roflhard:

:roflhard: He looks thrilled, too!

Whooo! I just love this book and these patterns but… You are very right to be worried about the size issue! I actually made the Hervor cap (p39) and it swallowed my whole head! I also looked a bit like the Sweedish Chef from the muppet show! Having said that, it was the warmest cap that I’ve ever worn and it was perfect for sub-zero temps in the Colorado mtns. Having played around with some of the other patterns I have found that it’s all HUGE! :?? Maybe people from Sweeden are just big people? Those models are probably closer to 6’ if you ask me!!!

What about using the Rafn pattern (pg 46/47) and stick in the other calbe pattern? This is such a pretty jacket/sweater that I have eyed a few times! And as usual, Ingrid is right! You could use the cable pattern in another sweater and just play with your gauge!

In case you haven’t tried “the new method”… it took me a few disasterous trys but I finally “got it” and it’s really cool once you understand the concept. It does make a difference when you start cables in the middle - the background doesn’t pull! Well, that’s kinda the point but it does work!

Good luck and keep us posted!

PS - There are 4 of those “tabs” in the front and four in the back!
