How do you make gauge adjustment for hat

i’ve been knitting hat for my own head but seems like it’s always bigger…i got better last one but still slightly bigger, so that i attached rubber thread…

i hope you can share me how you make gauge adjusment…
for example, if you head is let’s say 26 inches…
the gauge is 10 sts=4 inches…
then theoretically, the stitches should be 60…are you going to make 60???

and for gauge…is it in ribbing, or knit, or purl…usually, hat starts with ribbing…so, based on your experience…the gauge will be apply to …?

anyway, does anyone know any good knitting design books?

This is a great site to make a formula for hats based on your gauge.

Usually gauge is for the main part of the hat, with ribbing done on needles a size or two smaller.

thanks a lot:yay:

Ingrid, thank you, thank you, thank you for the link…many-many super thanks!!!..
i tried the formula on the website…and applied it to TWOSOME of berroco hat…you know what?..:woot:…i did it, i did it, i did it…hurray!!!:woot:

i could make a beret with my homespun lionbrand yarn…with my own size…i wasn’t sure when i tried the formula, but i have no choice…

i tried to show the result as my proof but the picture is so ugly…i couldn’t take it myself…
