How do you knit with two strands of yarn

I have a book of baby afghan patterns that calls of knitting with two strands of yarn at the same time. The yarn gets twisted and tangled after about 6 stitches. Is there any way to keep this from happening? It is very time consuming stopping to untangle everything.

To keep the balls from tangling together, put them in separate ziplock baggies. You can’t do anything about the yarns twisting on the needle instead of laying neatly side by side, but it doesn’t matter, that won’t be obvious when you’re done.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll definitely give it a try!

I’m in the middle of a sweater for which I am holding two yarns at once to get the proper weight and also because I didn’t just want to knit in plain black.

Here’s what I’ve been doing…

I have two largish bowls from my kitchen and place them on the floor side by side, beside my recliner where I usually knit. I place a ball in each bowl and because the bowl is slippery, the yarn comes off really nicely.

Now I still get twists but not for quite a long time and this has been totally worth it to me. I never worry about the yarn getting twisted in the knitting… it only adds to the new fabric surprise that I get in the end.

I do this. Also, I cut off a little bit of one corner at the bottom and thread the yarn through it so that I can keep the baggie zipped shut. It comes out of the bag very neatly that way!
