How do you knit with 6 totally different

how do you knit with 6 totally different balls of yarn that have to be carried up there own individual row and not be tangled up with each other as you switch from one color ball to the next. :??
this pattern is a really nice scarf and on paper it looks really easy but when i started working on it i saw this little detail in the writting that says you must have a ball of yarn for every row. and as not to leave a hole while switching colors cary yarn under. this causes the tangling!
i really want to work on this pattern but am getting frustrated with the 6 balls of yarn. :frowning:

It sounds like an intarsia pattern. Is it?

If it is, then you might be better off not using entire balls, but either wrapping little balls, or better yet, leaving long strands of each color. They will inevitably get tangled, but with long strands you can pull them out of the tangle one at a time rather than trying to untangle balls of yarn.

Of course, Ingrid probably nailed it! But just in case, if each row is entirely one color, how about twisting the unused colors with the next-used one at the end of the row where you dropped them and carrying them up that way? (Hard to put in words, but hopefully it makes a little sense?)

i don’t think this counts as an intarsia pattern . this is a striped scarf with a slight twist in that each color is cabled into each other. though the 60 foot length of the thing.
i tried to find a link on line for it but i guess BHG rather keep it as a pattern exclusively for Knit It Mag. Where it apeared in the spring 2005 edition. Its called a “cabled-striped scarf”. ITS ONE OF THOSE OOOOWWW SCARF WRAPS :happydance:
If any of you have it. maybe you can look at this pattern but now i think im on the wrong forum for that.

If you’re keeping the yarn attached for all the stripes, then you’re going to have to fight with tangles. Better than weaving in all those ends, though!
