How do you knit along a side edge?

The pattern I have has me completing the back and then knitting a border along the side edges?

How do I do this, Can someone please help me?

It sounds like they want you to pick up stitches along the edge.

Thank you for being so quick with the reply I really didn’t expect to get an answer anywhere near as quickly. This is exactly what I want.

I am not much of a knitter, only ever finished one item and that was a baby jumper about 20 years ago. Only doing that as I have a really cold dog!!
