Hi there
I’m brand new to this site & a beginner to knitting but glad I found a site like this as there’s nobody locally who knows much about knitting!
I’m knitting my first pattern (a baby cardigan Elle 7189) & I’m shaping raglans on back.
It gives instructions to SHAPE RAGLANS followed by 1st TO 5th SIZES ONLY. I’m knitting 2nd size so do I follow both instructions ie SHAPE RAGLANS & MY SIZE or for MY SIZE only? I don’t see how I reach the final number of sts if I do MY SIZE only.
This is how it reads (I cast on 38 sts)
SHAPE RAGLANS: Dec 1 st at each end of next & alt row 10 times = 18 sts
1ST TO 5TH SIZES ONLY: Dec 1 st at each end of every 4th row 2 times = 14 sts
I’ve already done SHAPE RAGLANS so hope I don’t have to unravel all my work…so confusing for a self-taught beginner…hope someone can help me!
Hi and welocme to Knitting Help!
You’ve worked the decreases correctly so far (18sts) and now the pattern wants you to continue with 2 more decrease rows for your size (the 2nd size). You should have 18sts at this point and now you’ll decrease to 14sts.
Sometimes it helps to read through the entire pattern first. It’s not that you have to work out every detail just keep an eye out for directions that have to be worked at the same time. That’s not the case here however so you’re on track. Just do the next dec rows.
I hope you’ll post a photo of the finished sweater. We’d love to see it.
Thank you!
I got confused with “at every 4th row” so does that mean I must knit another 8 rows & dec 1 st at each end of every 4th row? Or do I just dec on the next 2 rows in which case, why does it say at every 4th row?
I hope to post it too, if I ever get there
You’ve got it, knit another 8 rows, dec every 4th.
