How do I put edges on my afghan?

Hi everyone,
I knitted an afghan using the Alexi pattern. I put fringe on the cast-on and cast-off ends and after a very gentle wash, the fringe was completely unravelled and ugly so it was removed. Now the afghan needs new ends because it doesn’t look right without something there.

The sides of the afghan are double seed stitch and I was thinking about using it on the ends too. How do I go about doing that? Pick up stitches on each end and start knitting additional rows? Knit the new edges and attach (how?)?

I’ve never pieced anything together before and look forward to reading your advice.
Thank you!

Yep, just pick up sts and knit a few rows of seed stitch would be easiest - no sewing on.

Oh how I love to read that something is the “easiest”! The afghan is a graduation gift and I need to finish it before he goes off to college in August.

Thank you!

Well, it sure beats knitting an edging separately then joining it either by knitting on or sewing together. At least it would be to me…
