How do I properly wash lopi wool?

This question pertains to an unusual article of clothing that I wear, so try to bear with me.

I own four hand-knitted Álafoss Lopi wool thongs, which I ordered from online a year and a half ago. If you’re curious, these are what I’m referring to:

I tend to wear a lopi thong for one of two reasons: either it’s cold out and I want to wear a dress or a skirt, or it’s a special occasion (e.g. my birthday, a dinner theatre). In other words, I pretty much exclusively wear them with dresses and skirts. There’s just something very risqué about having one on that makes me feel discreetly alluring. I don’t really even know how to explain it, but it makes me feel more confident.

The only problem is that they are a pain to wash, in large part because I don’t really know how.

When it comes time to clean them, I usually fill a small tote box with cold water and add a little bit of shampoo. I then submerge the thongs and press the shampoo into them so that the suds get all the way through the material. I do this for about 15 minutes. Once that’s out of the way, I rinse the thongs out under a faucet, lie them flat on a towel, and pat them down. I generally hang them from my shower curtain with my bathroom fan on so that they will dry quicker.

Would this be sufficient? Or do I need to do more in order to clean them thoroughly?

Hand washing is recommended so a mild soap or a wool wash like Euclan should work.
