How do I make the 1x1 or 2x2 rib stitch?

I am a new knitter…I knit a scarf for my high school boyfriend to match his football letter jacket on about #3-4 needles about 25 years ago! I’ve knit a few scarves and ponches, shawls, and am currently working on a stockingnet stitch hat in the round.

I’ve read some patterns that state “1x1 rib” or 2x2 rib. Exactly what is this? Could someone please tell me, and tell if there is an online video clip showing this?

Thanks!

1x1 rib is K1, P1 to end of row

2x2 rib is K2, P2 to end of row

See here for a video, under ‘basic stitch patterns’, called ‘ribbing’.

Good luck!
