How do I ktbl of a double yo?

Hi guys!

I’m a fairly new knitter who has decided to abandon the safety of garter, stockinette and rib stitches to tackle a basic lace cowl, the Pamela Cowl on Ravelry to be exact.

I have gotten through row 5 with no problems, but it’s row 6 I got stuck on.

In row 5, I have to do a double yo before doing a ssk, my question is: In row 6, when I have to ktbl of the double yarn over, what the eff is that supposed to look like? I have seen tutorials on how to knit normally through a yarn over and double yarn over, and I think I understand that, but when that yarn is stretched off of the needle, there is no real “back loop”, so how do I knit through it? I have seen ZERO tutorials on how to go through the back loop of a yarn over.

Should I just bring the yarn up front and purl through there? I am on my 2nd attempt of this cowl, and I want to know how to do it, and what it’s supposed to look like before I just rush through it and frog it again.

Thanks in advance, I will really appreciate it :muah:

Hi and welcome!
Even a double yarn over has a kind of back leg. If it’s tight, it may be difficult to get the right needle into it so it may help to put the right needle tip into the front leg (it looks like you’re going to purl but the yarn remains in the back) but then roll the right needle tip over the left needle and to the back. Then you can knit through the back loop.
I notice that the next stitich is a knit into the same yarn over:
The stitches in parentheses on Round 6 are worked into the double yo from the previous round.
Rnd 6: *K1, (ktbl, k1), k1; rep from * around.

You could try this on a small swatch just to make sure you can get it to work and save your good yarn and project from frogging.
