How do I know what size crochet thread I need to knit a pattern?

I am trying to knit a lace table runner I found on Ravelry. The pattern only says to use crochet thread but does not mention a size. The pattern creator says she used 100 g ca. and 585 meters of material. She also says to use 4mm needles. Does anyone know what I would need to make this pattern? Thank you for your help.

Maybe @OffJumpsJack or @okckwilter can help with the thread weight.

Thanks for thinking of me, salmonmac, but I’m afraid I have zero experience with knitting with crochet thread. Hopefully OffJumpsJack can be of more help.

I hope I’m not butting in at all, never sure when to speak up lol.
Wow, 4mm needles is kind of big for crochet thread. I have noticed a lot of crochet designers use the term thread as synonymous with yarn, could be a thing here too (even though they are different). If the resident experts aren’t sure off the bat, could you share the pattern name? It may be a standard size 3 (normal thread for fashion crochet because of it’s thickness, about the thickness of wool sock yarn knit with size 2 needles usually), but with size 6 knitting needles that would be so so loose. Which might be the point in the pattern lol.

The pattern is Lace Poinsettia by Susann Hajjar on Ravelry.

My goodness that is pretty! That looks more like a crochet 10 to me, but it would depend on how tight you knit. A fingering weight yarn could probably be used with very minor tweaking. Looks intentionally loose, explains the large needles. I certainly could be wrong though!

I’m taking your suggestion and getting #10 crochet thread. Thank you so much.
