Begin at lower edge of one leg and using white cast on 10 sts
1st row: Inc Kwise into every st - 20 sts

Break off yarn and leave stitches on a spare needle.

At the moment I have one leg put aside, waiting on an extra needle, and the second leg I’ve knit across with pink yarn. I know how to do this with flat needles, but I’m a little lost as to how I knit across the second leg when that’s waiting on another needle, and currently I’ve got the second leg ready to go in the round.
How do I connect the two legs so I can start knitting the body?
Is this even possible?
After you knit the sts with the pink that are on the needle you are going to knit the 20 sts on the spare needle and now they are joined. Whether you hid the ends or tie in the second leg is your choice. I would suggest a tie in and make it on the inside of the body.
You were working each leg in the round with only 20 stitches each, but now you want to set your 3 holding double points up so that they will be able to hold all 40 stitches. So after you have knit the first row of 20 stitches with the pink, move some of the stitches over so that you have say 13 (13+14+13=40) on the first needle and keep the other 7 on one needle. Now you have all 20 stitches of the second leg (the one you just knit) on 2 needles.
At this point you are ready to hold your holding needle for the other leg stitches up where you can work off of it and work 7 of those stitches off onto the needle with the 7. Now you have two needles with 13 and 14, knit the other 13 off of the holding needle onto your third dpn. Now you have all 40 stitches arranged so that you can work in the round on them. Join and start knitting.
