Good evening! I am just starting a scarf for my father using a sugar cube pattern.
[ul]
[li]Row 1 is K.[/li][li]Row 2 is *p6, k2, rep from * across.[/li][li]Row 3 is k the k sts and p the p sts.[/ul]What does that mean??? Do I do the exact same as row 2 or the exact opposite? I think I am supposed to *k6, p3; rep from * across.[/li]
Which (if any) is right? Thanks so much if you can help!
You first have to be able to identify which are knits and which are purls. On Row 3, everything you knit will look like a purl stitch and everything you purled will look like a knit stitch. This site shows the images of what each of them look like: http://learn-to-knit.com/right1.htm . So, what you’ll do is p2, k6 because on the previous row, you ended with k2, so this turns into p2 and you started with p6 and this turns into k6.
TY for the explanation! The yarn I am using is black and I am still so new to this that I am having a hard time figuring out which is which. I’'ll just do the opposite of row 2 and I think it will be right. Thanks again!
That’s one of the first things every new knitter should learn…what the stitches look like. I’ll attach a picture I made of the stitches. Another thing to know is that each stitch has 2 sides, one side is knit and the other side is a purl. So if you are doing k2p2 ribbing and you end with two knit stitches you’d start with two purls.
