I messed up on a row and had to frog back a bit and eventually got everything back on track. However, now my sides look different than how they have looked. I do not know how I managed to do that when I frogged. Any suggestions on an easy fix? I’d really like not to frog again if I can help it.
Well, you completely fooled me for several minutes with an upside-down photo, even though the knitting needle is right there at the top!
When you frogged back to fix the mistake, you accidentally restarted on the wrong row of your chart, so the front and back of your knitting have switched. (You now have purl bumps showing on the front, and smooth knit stitches on the back.)
Try frogging back five or six rows, and you should get back on track. Please post another photo when you have done that and we will be able to help you find the right row in your chart.
Sorry! I don’t know how it uploaded upside-down. I went back to the three rows of knitting (I thought) and started from there so I don’t know how I restarted on the wrong row of the chart. I didn’t know I could even do that! I will frog back and clear the wrong side and then I’ll come back.
I honestly am not seeing the problem. I don’t see knits and purls switched from working the wrong row or the wrong way either. I do like the pattern. I’ve saved it for future use.
It took me several minutes to reorient my brain to the pics and see the switched stitches too.
Jstaff, although it’s horrible to frog and rework and then have to do it again, you will be so much happier with the piece when it’s done.
As kushami said, once you’ve gone back repost a pic and you can be helped o get back on track wth the correct row and correct side of the fabric. It will be well worth it.
For what it’s worth, at times I’ve gone back more rows than strictly necessary just to ensure I am on an “easy” row (or the plainest row in a pattern) so that I can triple check which row I’m on and which to work next.
When you go back make sure you’re working a RS row if RS is facing or WS row if WS is facing. I think what happened is you got the wrong row number to start knitting again. Why do I think this? Someone who looks a lot like me and knits just like I do has done the same thing.
Ok so I frogged back and I think I cleared the flipped rows. Hopefully these pictures are better than the 1st set! I think I’m back to the knit 3 rows but I’m not 100% sure.
On the right side of the work, the row on the needles looks like it has been purled but the wrong side also looks purled. I’m confused.
What row came before the 3 knit rows?
And do the 3 knit rows start in a RS or a WS - do you know?
What row come after the 3 knit rows, is it a knits, a right side row??
I would just pause for a minute and check which row this is and which to do next.
Looks like you are about to work a right side row, is that correct?
Others might be able to tell more easily which stitches are on the needle.
It looks like you’ve only done row 8 ie the first of the three knit rows. So you should do two more knit rows.
Rows 7 -10 are all knit, which should give you two garter ridges. You can see this earlier in your knitting. Your most recent picture only shows one set of purl bumps on the right side, which is the first knit row which is worked on the wrong side.
It’s looking good!
Just realised you’re further down the pattern, (probably on rows 16-18?) but the same principle applies!
Effectively, the three knit rows starting from the wrong side ( after a knit based pattern) will give you two garter ridges . ( Late at night in UK, after a G&T!
One row of knit from the wrong side is finished and the YOs from the previous row have been caught up, there are none showing on the needle.
So the first row of knit from the wrong side is complete. Two more knit rows to work, the right side, the wrong side, then you’ll be on the right side for the next knitted pattern row.
Jstaff, yarn overs are a help in figuring out where you are, if they show as a strand just over the needle they have only just been worked, if they have been worked (ie another row has been done) then they are caught up, a finished stitch, attached under the needle.
Another indication for reading your work, the wrong side has been knit but for me at first glance it looks purled, if you pull down on the fabric a bit to extend the stitches you should see the knit Vs next to the needle on the wrong side.
Thank you @kushami@GrumpyGramma@ZKOhio@Creations@Mel61! Everything is back on track and looking good! Thank you all for your help! I couldn’t have fixed it without everyone here!
