I have just started knitting a baby blanket comprised of multiple squares each with a different embossed (?) Image. The images are created using standard knit stitches and purl stitches.
I would like to do some larger squares and I think I can just double everything… I.e cast on 80 instead of 20,
K10 P5 k 5 just becomes K20 P10 K10
But I’m unsure if I need to just knit each row twice or will that mess up the pattern with WS RS?
For example if row 6 with each stitch is doubled is:
K14 P 10 K30 P10 K 16 do I repeat that as is for row 7 or do I need to reverse it in some way?
If the pictures are knit ,maybe the technique called intarsia, you would need to stick to the pattern. If the picture is embroidered onto the knitted square afterwards you could possibly enlarge the squares.
What’s the pat teen you’re using,it might help us if we knew what you were knitting
Right,got it!
These are motif square s,I don’t think enlarging them will work, but go ahead and let us know how you get on
I’ve been wrong a time or thousand before!
Welcome to KH!
An abstract design may be easier to enlarge as you’re suggesting. You may have to play around with a picture of something or a character. Drawing it out on knitter’s graph paper might help. http://sweaterscapes.com/lcharts3.htm
Sounds like a wonderful design for a baby blanket. Enjoy working it.
You are half right. But your row count may not be simply doubled.
Take a look at the charts in the pattern. Note that they have more rows than stitches to make each square.
Also note the diagonal “edge” transitions from knit to purl.
If you simply repeat the the pattern rows using twice the sts count, you would get jagged “steps” in the diagonal transition edge.
If you can work with the charts, you can redraw them at a larger size and adapt the rows to a smooth those transition line.
Use your gauge swatch and math to determine if doubling will give you the finished size blanket you seek.
Good luck. Ask more questions. Find more answers. And share your finished projects, please.
