How do I do this?

I’m about to start my first sweater and everything seems pretty clear execpt this. The sweater is st st and has a hem at the bottom and sleeves. The instuctions say

Work st st for 7 rows, end with RS row, Knit next row on WS for turning ridge.
Does this mean I will have a garter st so I will know where to turn and hem it?

Also this sweater you make the front and back seperately they are made exactly the same can I just double my cast on and double the rest of the work and work them together on cir needles? I guess it might get tricky at the top where the sleeves set in. Any tips I would rather make one piece with no seams.

Yes to both. Knitting on the WS row in stockinette makes a purl row on the RS to turn the hem. You can double your CO to knit both front and back in the round, though you may want to do 2-4 sts less that account for the seam. You’ll be purling that turning row though. You’ll have to separate at the underarm to make front and back separately, unless you change the pattern a bit to make a seamless yoked or raglan sweater.

Do I just run a piece of scrap yarn through the back/front to hold those stitches at the top till I get finished with one side?? Then come back? There is a yoke that has a cable that sets in above the front and back the sleeves set into the yoke too. Sorry I’m teaching myself hope this makes sense.

Yes you can use scrap yarn or another circular needle to hold the side you’re not working on. When you make a yoked sweater you work back and front to the underarms and set aside. Make the sleeves. Then join - pick up the body, knit the back, one sleeve, the front, the other sleeve all on one needle. Then knit around doing decs every couple inches. You can use cables or whatever stitch pattern you like. Here’s a cabled yoke pattern - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=122186.0

Coupla states… How long would it take you to drive through Nebraska?

I have no idea!! Never been further west than Lincoln NE. I’m in a suburb of Omaha NE. I’m from Texas so still some exploring to do. Not that Iowa Or Nebraska is a place to tour one corn field pretty much looks like another! I think theres some sand dunes in Ne and some lakes but I’ve never seen either.

Okay, I’m about a days drive away. A long day… If you ever get over here, look me up.

Will do.
