how do I do this decrease?

Hi! I’m using the lion brand adult raglan sleeve pullover pattern, and there’s a decrease that I’m not sure I understand.

It says,

Dec 1 st each side every other row 15 (16, 15, 16, 18, 17) times, working only the RS row decs.

What is meant by every other row and what is meant by only working RS row decreases? If someone could explain this to me blankly that’d be great as my mind is in another world reading this part of the pattern, thank you.

Welcome to KH!

Every other row means to decrease on a row, skip the decrease on the next row, work a decrease row, skip the decrease on the next row and so on.

Make the decreases on the RS (right side or public side) rows and use the decreases as described below for RS row decreases. This will put the decreases on knit rows since the pullover is worked in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row).
If you call the first decrease row (a knit row) row 1 then the decreases are on rows 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15, etc for the number of times indicated for your size.

“When dec falls on RS row: K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts; end ssk, k1;
Dec 1 st each side every other row 15 (16, 15, 16, 18, 17) times, working only the RS row decs.”
