How do i do buttonholes

I am trying to do buttonholes. It is over 2 rows. Bind off 3 on one row and then cast on 3 on the next. I have done it but it looks pretty bad. So can someone help me to make it look more professional

I think it all depends on what cast on you are using. If you are using the twisted loop cast on, than try doing the cable cast on instead.

There are several ways to do buttonholes at this site.

What kind of stitch pattern are you working the buttonholes into? If ribbing, sometimes shifting over one st can help (if you’re working them over K-P-K they look better worked over P-K-P as they’ll sit down in the valley of the Ps).

Best to practice on a swatch on NOT on the actual sweater til you get a feel for the look you like.

On the “Advanced Techniques” page there is a video demonstrating how to do a three stitch button hole.

Practice different buttonholes on a tiny swatch until you get a result you’re happy with.
