How do I decrease a k1,p1 rib hat?

I tried k2tog, k1, p1, but it looked awful !
Please help. Thanks in advance.

I don’t think there’s a perfect way of doing it. What you could do, and many do this, is to switch to stockinette for the decrease section.

This is copied from this knitter’s review post:

When you do a decrease, one stitch lies on top of another. Keep the one on top in pattern and then follow with the stitch you would have used if the decrease was not there. In other words, k1, p1, ssk, k1, p1. On the next rows you will have 2 knits together until you do another decrease.

My favorite way to decrease for a 1:1 ribbed hat is to do 8 double decreases every 4 rows. That changes a k1, p1, k1, p1, k1 into a k1, p3tog, k1 and keeps your ribbing in pattern.

 Purl 3 together!! That makes such perfect sense! I’ll have to remember that.
