How do I add a new color in the middle of a scarf?

Hi, everyone! I’ve been knitting only a few months, and have never tried adding color in the middle of a row. My boyfriend has requested that I make him a “Suzuki” scarf - a bright blue scarf with a white Suzuki symbol in the middle of each end. What is the best way to go about doing this? I attempted to simply knot the white in the middle of the row and knit, but when I need to switch back to blue it’s way over on the other side of the white stitches! Do I just… um… drag it over with me somehow?

What would be the best method for bringing the blue yarn over with me so I can continue working with it?

Check out the Advanced Techniques page on color knitting for intarsia and stranding.

Thank you! The intarsia method appears to be the best one for me. I’ll try it!
