How did my tail wind up on my right needle (english stitch)

Ok so 2 days ago, my friend gave me my first ever 10 minute knitting lesson. Today I went to my local knitting store to help me start a new row and make sure my stitches were ok. The store owner started a couple of stitches on the new row. When I got home all but one had come loose, so I [B]thought[B] I slipped them back on correctly and started on my merry way. Suddenly I realized my tail was hanging off the yarn on the right needle. That seems wrong to me and I can’t find any trouble shooting guide that addresses this. What did I do wrong? How do I make it right and how do I prevent it from happening again??? Thank you.

Where the tail is depends on which cast on is used, maybe the store owner used a different one than you did before. And when you finish a row you’re at the other end of the needle so it’s always changing. Don’t worry about it, you didn’t do anything wrong, there’s no way a tail can switch sides just by knitting. It’s all in how you look at it.

thank you sue!
