How can I fix this?

I just knit a pair of socks (top down) and decided they needed to be smaller as I reached the ankle, so I decreased stitches. Now I want to know if there is a good way to take the socks apart in the middle so I can knit on the smaller number of stitches from the ankle up so it won’t be so big. I knit them with the two at a time method so have both socks with droopy tops and want to fix them without taking them all the way apart. Is this possible? Can I thread the stitches on a needle, clip the yarn above and then just start knitting from the ankle up? Thanks for any help.

I don’t see why not.
