Hello everybody,
I’m very new to knitting, in fact this is my first project! I’m knitting a scarf from a Cath Kidston set and I’ve made several mistakes so far but luckily enough I’ve had family members nearby to help me fix it. Now I’m on my own with it and I’ve made a mistake that I just can’t figure out!
I was on my first row of the red yarn and knitted to the end, then realised I’ve got this big saggy loop that I can’t stitch. I don’t recall dropping a stitch and I was watching myself knit quite intently… does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? (Please bear in mind that I’m new and you may need to write it in laymen’s terms!)
I’ve attached a picture to explain it better
Your stitches look very nice. It looks like you missed working that blue stitch somehow. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to Unknit or Tink Stitches which is something you’ll need to learn. You’ll need to tink the red row and the blue one just below to see if you can just knit the problem stitch or do you need to go back farther. Don’t just see it as a mistake, you’ve created a learning opportunity.
Your stitches look very nice.
well one way to fix it is to knit two together or decrease the stitches, however, before deciding to do that, make sure your stitch count is as it should be. In short, if you have more stitches than necessary, then decrease, if that stitch equals to what you need, then knit it. At the same time, you can also follow GG’s advice and unknit back down a row to where the mistake might have been made.
Thank you everyone for your help, I have no idea how I fixed it but I kept fiddling around with it and passing it between needles until it looked okay and I can’t even see where the mistake was now! :cheering: (Fluke, I’m sure)
The scarf is finished now and apart from a few minor mistakes it looks alright
Yay! You did it! :cheering: Do we get see a picture?
Of course! Here it is - it’s quite messy in places and I don’t like the colours so much but it was great for practice
That’s a pretty darned nice scarf, specially for a first project. The colors have something of a vintage flavor IMO. Now you can go pick the colors you want and really have fun!
For a first project that looks grate! I saw your other scarf you’er doing with the cabling and it’s also VERY nice!:yay:
Very nice work! You’re making some lovely scarves.
