How and where to add an extra stitches without starting over.

Hi there,
I’m knitting my first ever sweater, I’m familiar with Raglan having done crochet sweaters before but this is my first knitted one.

I’m knitting the Flax Sweater by Tin Can Knits via their app so I have all the exact measurement and stitch counts as I go.

I have just finished the increasing section (neck down towards the armpits) and I’m three stitches too short.

These are my counts between the 4 stitch markers:
265 stitches total (supposed to be 268)
Sleeve 53 (supposed to be 54)
Sleeve 52 (supposed to be 54)
Back 79 (supposed to be 80)
Front 81 (supposed to be 80)

I don’t know how to fix this, it looks okay and nothing is obviously jumping out at me and I’m usually pretty good at spotting mistakes. I have had to go back a round or two to fix where I forgot to increase on a few occasions but these missing stitches I can’t see where I’ve gone wrong.

Is there any way to fix this? Should I just add them in to get the extra 3 stitches as I do the next few rounds to get it to the right length (armpits) before starting the main section? I really don’t want to frog all this.

My garter section on both sides are supposed to be 14 stitches and they are. All 4 of my raglan increases are all straight and appear to look correct.

Looks beautiful and even in lovely yarn. This is a good pattern which won’t distract from the yarn’s color changes.
I’m usually on the side of ripping out to get it perfect but here, I’d just add in the extra body sts close to the underarm split for the body and sleeves. You can adjust the sleeve difference when you get to the sleeves.

Thanks. That’s what I was thinking. So I will take away one stitch where I have gone over in one side and add one to the opposite side so it’s balanced out. As for the sleeves I’m two short on one of them on one side of the garter panel (rather than a stitch on each side) so that will definitely need dealing with. Heading off to my Mum (the experienced knitter) to see if she can guide me. It’s my first knit sweater so I shall give myself some grace this time.

Looks fantastic so far. Love the yarn. I have done 2 Flax light sweaters (minus the garter stitches) and they both turned out well, after lots of help from the wonderful people at this forum. Lucky you having a mother who is an experienced knitter.

Thank you. I added the extra stitches and it looks fine, my eye can’t see where, I’m sure a trained eye would though. It’s coming along nicely.
