I’m thinking of knitting up some cute hotpads in some creative way, and using up the the odd balls of yarn around here. Here’s my question: Is there any type of yarn that should or shouldn’t be used for this purpose? Obviously I will make them nice and thick, with double strand. I just didn’t know if the heat would go right through acrylic, or cotton, or anything like that. :??
I made hotpads recently. 100% cotton so they are washable and won’t melt. What I did for thickness is make 2 and stitch together. I used washcloth patterns and made 2, whipstitch around the edges, add an icord loop on one corner, voila. Making 2 will use up the same amount of yarn as double stranding, but give more thickness.
I recently made the felted trivet from the book Felted Knits. Very easy, and I love it! I need to get around to downloading the pix from my camera so I can post some pictures…
