Here’s a project that got out of control!

The pattern on the outside looks really nice. They are a smidge long maybe.

I like it. Like the colors and pattern. If it looks ok on, there you go. It’s a good looking pattern and you’ve ventured into uncharted thrums so that’s all to the good.
Maybe if you knit its mate to a shorter length it’ll encourage you to shorten this one?
That’s what my daughter said. “Just shorten it.” It needs to be at least a few inches shorter. I will think about it, I guess. It’s one of those projects that started off ‘full of promise,’ and quickly turned underwhelming. But I did learn the thrums!
It’s not hideous, I like the colors and are those little hearts?
They end up looking like hearts, but it’s the way the wool roving gets knit into the pattern that does it. You add the strand of wool every 4 stitches, and then on the next round you knit the stitch and the wool piece through the back. The piece of wool is what is called the “thrum.” Makes it soft and warm inside the mitten.
I ended up kitchener stitching the top inch or so together to shorten it, and it looks OK! Also functions to keep the fingertips warmer! Yay! Now on to the second one which should turn out better!

Every project I start reminds me of the saying “Sometimes we catch the bear, but sometimes it catches us.” On the bright side, at least with knitting we get a redo when we get caught. Be nice if it worked that way with a bear.:teehee:

What I can’t stand is when a project is going along nicely, and looks pretty good, and you get that pleasant sense of anticipation: “Nice FO Almost Done.” And then the last bit goes horribly wrong, and you plunge into that chasm of despair…well, that’s maybe too dramatic, but, I’m sure you know what I mean. All that time spent and you wind up disappointed! But I think I revived this one! I’ll post a pic of the second glove once I get my thrumming mojo back.
I know just what you mean… For me that pleasant sense of anticipation is the harbinger of impending doom. 
I’ve learned to squash the feeling lest I, pardon the poor pun, jinx myself.
I’m looking forward to seeing the companion mitt after your thrumming mojo revives! 
Not hideous at all…just too big! Could you have tried them on as you went along and stopped before this happened? Kind of like you do with socks.
