I love knitting, but I must admit that I’m no expert. I’m trying to make sweaters but I somehow do it wrong. I’m confuse with the attaching of the yarn once you’ve finished binding off either front or back. Is there any way I could be shown how to do it? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
I’m not sure what you mean by:
"'I’m confuse with the attaching of the yarn once you’ve finished binding off either front or back."
Are you discussing the process of sewing the various pieces together?
Or are you finishing one shoulder, binding off then going back and knitting the other shoulder?
The more information you give the more likely it is that we’ll be able to help answer your question.
OK, WHEN YOU’RE MAKING A SWEATER, YOU HAVE TO PUT A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF STITCHES ON A STICTCH HOLDER, RIGHT? THEN AFTER YOU’RE DONE BINDING OFF THOSE STITCHES YOU HAVE TO ATTACH THE YARN TO THE OTHER SIDE. WELL EVERYTIME I DO THAT I ALWAYS END UP WITH AN OPENING ON THE SWEATER. HOW CAN I JOIN THE YARN ONCE I’M DONE ON ONE SIDE AND HAVE TO DO THE OTHER SIDE? :?
I think you are being too hard on yourself. It may be a little loose when you attach the yarn, but you’ll have to pickup stitches along that edge anyway when you work the neckband and that will obscure any problems. You can also tighten things up when you weave in that end.
If this just won’t work for you, try making a loop with a slip knot, like you are about to start casting on. Place this look next to your first stitch on the left needle and knit it with your first stitch (like a k2tog). This will give you a nice clean start.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.
Hi …I am new to knitting and have made quite a few scarves, but that is as far as I can go. I want to learn purl, decrease and increase next and really would like to make a shawl for my 21 year old daughter. Is that expecting too much being this new, only knowing the knit stitch?? Any advice for where I go from here would be appreciated. What a great site this is. I just found it.
