Hi, from CathiT1960 at yahoo

Hi! I am new to this web page and new to Knitting… I am a new Grandma and decided to try an knit a sweater for my beautiful grand daughter.:cheering:

I really need help and not sure how I do this…

So I have read a few and all they do is type their problem.

I have never knitted from a pattern so please help me understand, this is how the pattern is typed:

(RS). With MC, K54. S/1. K2tog. psso. Knit to end of row.

Ok so I know that RS is abbreviation for RightSide; but I don’t know what it means when it says “RightSide” or Wrongside"?

I understand MC means “Main Color” and so I know what [With MC, K54] means. It means Knit 54 stitches with main color, correct?

and I’m pretty sure “Knit to end of row” means just what it says knit the rest of the row. :knitting:

I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you

Hi Cathi and welcome to Knitting Help!

The RS (right side) is whatever side you want to be the outside (aka public side). The WS (wrong side) is the inside or the side you don’t want to show.

I think you’ve got right so far. Good job for a new knitter!

Thank you Jan, I still can’t figure out what “psso” means? Can you explain to me what I have to do?

Thank you

I still some help…

Can someone please explain to me what “psso” is? and possible show me how to do it…

I have only been knitting for a few weeks and I have found the definition is “pass the slipped stitch over” But I don’t have a clue as to what this means and how to do it…

Thank you, Cathi

It’s shown on the Decreases page, the full term is sl1 k1 psso - slip 1 st, k1, pass the slip st over (the knit stitch).

Oh sorry, I left you hanging there, Cathi! It was late and I wasn’t paying close enough attention to what you said.

Sue explained it, but you take the slipped stitch and pass it over the knit stitch on the right needle. Do check the video pages if you need to see it visually.
