I am a brand new knitter and am really enjoying my new hobby! I have learned the knit stitch and seem to have problems with the last stitch of my rows being too big. Can anyone provide me with some advice as to why this is happening and how I can fix this? I would like to try and knit my first scarf soon but I am not sure how this problem will effect my project.
The last/first stitch is always a bit big since it’s not connected another stitch on the outer edge. To make a nicer edge for a scarf, you can slip the first stitch without knitting it and knit the last stitch. It will make a nice edge for a scarf.
Or you can make sure you knit the first few stitches tightly, holding your working yarn taut, to tighten it up.
It’s a common problem, and hopefully others will pop in with their ways of working the edges for scarves, because there are several.
