How do you read these directions? The multiple numbers are for different sizes.
1st row K0 (1,0,1,0) [M1 by knitting in front and back, k4, sl, k2tog, psso, k4, m1] to last 0 (1,0,1,0) stitch, knit to end.
The way I read this is that only the portion inside the [ and ] is actually used, but I’m confused about the “knit to end”.
Help!
There is a single stitch, either at the beginning or the end, that is included along with what is inside the [ ]. I assumed the single stitch was only once, at the beginning. There are no instructions in the pattern about what parts to repeat and I’m confused by this pattern.
Hello
What size are you making?
You are correct in how you are reading it I think.
First stitch is either k1 or k0 depending on size.
Next the instruction in [Square brackets] is repeated across the row until there is either 1 or 0 stitches remaining depending on size.
Knit to end only refers to the possibility of there being 1 remaining stitch depending on the size. It might have been less confusing to say K0 (1, 0, 1, 0).
Unless there is an additional chart or separate section of the pattern which is read at the same time. For example I am doing a cable cardigan and need to read one page for the sizing and shaping instructions and another page for the stitch pattern.
If you’ve looked over the pattern and this is not the case for you then it’s as you thought across the row.
Does this help?
Yes!! I’m making not the smallest, but next to smallest, so first stitch is K1….and I think last stitch is K1. You would think Noro could present a pattern in a way that was less confusing….
Thanks for your help!!
Yes that sounds right for your chosen size.
Hope it goes well.
