I’m trying to knit the stockinette stitch. I’ve watched multiple videos and keep getting all purls, except for this one accidental stockinette stitch. (see photo) What am I doing? I appreciate your help!
It looks like you are knitting every row (that 1 stitch being a mistake) giving you garter stitch. For stockinette, you knit on the right side and purl on the wrong side.
Btw, stockinette stitch tends to curl on the edges so if you’re making a swatch, you generally do garter stitch the first 3 or 4 rows (knit front and back) and then switch to stockinette, but keep the first and last 3 stitches of each row as garter. So front (right) side: k3, knit until the last 3 stitches, k3. Back (wrong) side: k3, purl across to the last 3 stitches, k3. Then when you’ve knitted the swatch length, do another 3 rows where you knit front and back before binding off. This results in a garter stitch border all the way around, keeping the stockinette swatch from curling in.
But actual stockinette is simply knit every stitch on right side and purl every stitch on the wrong side.
