Help! yarn for allergic cousin?

I can find plenty of subs for a chunky/bulky weight non-animal fiber yarn, but problem is, there’s not a lot of straightforward reviews about them :shrug: . I’d love y’all’s opinions on what I could use for my cousin’s Xmas gift scarf:

-chunky/bulky, smooth so has good stitch definition with cables, preferably in a red color, SOFT - meaning a silky “hand”, not a yucky plasticky feeling when you run your hand over it (y’all know what I’m talkin’ about).

This would be a cinch if she wasn’t so dang allergic. I know KH’ers got the answer! :thumbsup:

and am planning on getting a lot of it done while traveling the next 3 weeks…

Bamboo yarn is hypoallergenic and it has a silky feel.

here is some from ebay. too get the proper gauge you could knit 2 strands together.

I’ve used Lion Brand Color Waves before. It’s so soft…

I don’t know what your pattern looks like, so I don’t if this would work or not.

Try using Yarndex.com it’s a great site. You can find yarn by fiber. I know I have some people allergic to wool in my family so it comes in handy.

I don’t know if Bernat’s Softee Chunky is anything you’d be interested in. It’s very soft as long as you use larger needles, so for a scarf 11s would work.

I am doing the Irish Hiking Scarf in Berroco Touche (cotton blend) for my allergic sister - it is soft and has good stitch definition. For a bulky you would have to double strand it…

Caron simply soft chunky. It’s acrylic, but soft.
