These abbreviations can be confusing. The result of both yrn (yarn round the needle) and yo (yarn over) is the same. Both create a new loop or stitch on the needle.
Yrn after a knit and before a purl means to bring the yarn to the front between the needles, then over the right needle to the back and once again to the front between the needles ready to purl the next stitch.
Yo after a purl and before a knit means take the yarn over the right needle to the back ready to knit the next stitch.
