Help with yfwd in pattern

Hi
I am a beginner knitter and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out this pattern.

Row 1: purl
Row 2: K2, *yfwd, k next 3 sts, sl first stitch knitted over the top of the last two stitches * rep from * to * to the last stitch, K1
Row 3: purl
Row 4: K1 * K3, sl first stitch knitted over the top of the last 2 sts, yfwd * rep from * to * across row to last 2 sts, K2

I don’t really understand the yfwd in row 2 and 4 - do I knit all the 3 sts with the yarn forward - i assume if I do that I’ll end up with 6 stitches instead of 3? But the pattern is just a glasses case so I don’t think it should be increasing in size? Sorry if someone could explain this I would be so grateful

Hi, welcome to KH.
The yfwd is a yo. Slipping a knitted st over the others will cancel out the inc. You won’t yfwd before each knit stitch, just when indicated.

Here’s a video for the yarn over that may help. The yarn forward, then over the needle to the back is all you need to do. The video shows the next knit stitch but that knit stitch isn’t part of the yarn over.

Thank you both  That makes way more sense
