Help with Xmas stocking pls

I’m knitting an Xmas stocking, now at the heel (decreasing). The instructions read “YO. Knit 9 stitches. Slip yarn over purlwise to right needle”. It’s the last part that’s tripping me up. I don’t find anything on the web with that specific phrasing. Not sure how to do last step-any help is appreciated.

The way it’s written it seems you’re to slip the yo over 9 sts but that seems odd. What pattern are you using, can you give us a link or it’s name and where you got it?

Welcome to the forum!
The yarn over slipsfrom the left needle to the right needle. Purlwise means that you put the tips of the two needles so that they’re touching and move the stitch from left to right. That way the stitch won’t twist or change orientation.
The 9 sts are separate from the yarn over.

Assuming you are knitting right handed ie from left needle to right and on DPNs would the emboldened phrase make sense if you turn your work after knitting the 9 stitiches and before slipping the YO?

Yeah, I see where I misread now or at least I think I do. Thanks. There must be a yo on the previous row? Hopefully we’ll get to see the pattern or at least a picture.
