Hello I’m just learning to knit and have found a beginners scarf pattern but don’t understand part of the instruction;
Row 1 (RS) Purl (OK with this!)
Row 2 *(K1, P1, K1) all into next st, P3tog, rep from *to end
Could someone please tell me what “all into next st” means? And does P3tog mean three separate purl stitches or 3 stitches purled into 1?

personally I would have not thought that that stitch ist a beginners scarf, honestly.
It is called raspberry stitch, blackberry stitch, popcorn stitch, trinity stitch… all the same.

you basically make a knit stitch into the next stitch, but you do not slip the stitch off the needle. Then you make a purl stitch into the same stitch. Still not slip it off the needle. Then you make another knit stitch into the same stitch and THEN slip it.
for p3tog: insert your needle in the next 3 stitches at once and then work them into one stitch (a purl stitch, of course).
What you do: you make 3 stitches out of one and then you make one stitch out of 3. If you do it right, you end up with the same amount of stitches at the end of every row. I recommend counting that to check on yourself.
I like that stitch, but as a beginner, I would have been lost, I am pretty sure. It probably depends on “how much of a beginner you are”. Of course I do not know that.
And to add to what Merigold said - instead of k p k into the single stitch, it can be easier to k yo k into the stitch. Looks just the same.
I think I’d like suzee’s way of doing this better. I hate doing k p k in one stitch, it gets so tight and hurts my fingers.
