Help with understanding a knitting pattern

Hi, im currently following a pattern where the primary pattern is mossing.
Im a little confused on the instructions and was wondering if someone can help make it clearer for me.
(I am working in the biggest size so the last number in the brackets)

Pattern:

  • Shape Top of Foot
next row (rs) moss st 24 [26: 29: 31], work 3 tog tbl and turn.
next row sl 1 wyab, moss st 7 [7: 9: 9] sts, work 3 tog and turn.
next row sl 1 wyab, moss st 7 [7: 9: 9] sts, work 3 tog tbl and turn.
next row sl 1 wyab, moss st 7 [7: 9: 9] sts, work 3 tog and turn.
Rep last 2 rows 1 [1: 2: 2] times more, ending with a ws row.

  • For context this is what the previous row was (for the sole) which i understood;
row 6 moss st 3 sts, inc twice in next st, moss st 9 [11: 12: 14] sts,
inc twice in next st, moss st 5 [5: 7: 7] sts, inc twice in next st,
moss st 9 [11: 12: 14] sts, inc twice in next st, moss st 3 sts.
    41 [45: 49: 53] sts.
Work in moss st for 5 [7: 7: 9] rows, ending with a ws row

Welcome to the forum!
What is the name and designer of your pattern?
These are short rows so you won’t be working across the entire row. Work the 31sts in moss stitch, work 3 together through the back loop (this may be purl 3tog tbl or k3tog tbl depending on where you are in the moss) the turn as you would at the end of a row.
The following rows all begin with slipping a stitch purlwise with the yarn in back. If that doesn’t help just come back and let us know exactly where the confusion lies.
Maybe these are bootees or socks?

Hi, these are for booties.
The pattern is called ‘the woodland collection’ by Paintbox Yarns.

Im having a little trouble with this line:
next row sl 1 wyab, moss st 8 sts.
As the stitch slipped would be a knit and then a purl but how can i purl if i have to bring the yarn at back of work?
The pattern is K,P,K,P (etc)
Can you help me clarify on what to do after the slip stitch.

You’ll need to move the yarn to the front for your purl just as if you’d just knit the previous stitch. I’m looking for a video that shows this but so far no luck.

So i slip the knit stitch making sure the yarn is at the back before slipping, then bring the yarn to the front, carry on with the purl stitch and continue the pattern?
The only thing that is confusing is the wyab (with yarn at back) bit, ive never come accross it when slipping a stitch before.

I think i found something that made it clearer for me:
‘Slip stitch with yarn in back’ means to hold the yarn at the back of the knitting (where it would be if you were working a knit stitch), as you move the slipped stitch from the left to the right needle.’

As the first stitch is a knit and im slipping the knit stitch, i dont really need to worry about the yarn being at the back of the work right? Because the yarn will already be at the back of the work ready for the knit stitch.

@chloea1 posted a great link. I found a video showing a purl after slipping the first stitch. In the video she slips the last stitch also and I have no idea that you need to do that. She does show the edge a slipped stitch gives and that’s the reason for doing it. Knitting 101 - How to Slip the Edge Stitch As for wyib, does the first stitch present as a knit, meaning you purled the last stitch on the previous row? If it is a knit on the side facing then that’s why you slip with yarn in back.

The pattern is an odd numbered moss stitch so it ends and begins with a knit
I just watched the video and it helped so much!! Thank you!! @GrumpyGramma

You’re most welcome. I understand these things but can’t explain them. I’m glad I went back to look more for a video.
