Help with toy dress pattern

Hi I am trying to knit a pattern but dont understand the instructions. It’s asking me to sl4wyif, k1, sl1wyif repeat 3 times. I get the first two steps but how do I do the last one and start again when there is no knit stitch to separate. I hope someone can help

What is the name of your pattern and designer? It’ll help us help you.

It’s Louise crowther Tilly hare dress

Is that exactly as it appears in the pattern?

Thanks, GG.
It looks like the sl4wyif, k1, sl1wyif repeat 3 times, effectively a slip 5sts with yarn in front is part of the patteern stitch. The long strand of yarn in front will be picked up in a later row and placed behind a knit stitch. That’s what yields the lattice pattern toward the hem and at the yoke.
It’s similar to the butterfly stitch except that you’ll only have one loop of yarn to pick up on that later row.

This pattern comes from a terrific book with a beautiful fox pattern and others.

Sometimes they’re written this way due to the offset of the pattern and how it lines up with the edges. Think of it as sl4wyif, k1, sl5wyif, k1, sl5wyif, k1, sl1wyif.
