Help with this pattern?

It’s been awhile since I’ve asked for help here, but I’m glad to be back. :slight_smile:

I want to give THIS PATTERN a try. It would be my first cabling project but it looks simple enough in videos so I think I could probably manage.

The pattern does not say if I should be using straight or circular needles, and while I am pretty sure it must be circular I wanted to make sure.

Also, I would like to make this hat for a child as well as an adult if it goes well. If it’s not too complicated, I was wondering if someone could tell me how much to reduce the CO for a smaller, child-sized version?

That’s a cute hat and it looks very warm too.
You could use straight needles since it’s not so many sts in the cast on but circulars may be more comfortable. The hat isn’t joined to knit in the round so even on the circs you’d be knitting back and forth.

There’s no rule about reducing the sts for a smaller hat. It’ll depend on the gauge and the size that you want to make. Best thing is to knit the adult version and then measure from there.

I have never made a hat on straight needles, I wasn’t sure you could. Do you graft it together at the end? I just wasn’t quite clear just based on the instructions.

Yes, you have a seam to stitch up at the end. It’s actually an edge that’s folded over and sewn.
