Hi, I would like to make my first raglan sweater and have just completed the neck ribbing. The next direction says "Switch to a circular needle size 4.5 mm, work 1 rnd and pm as follows:. My question is, do I knit 1more round of ribbing with the 4.5 and PM or 1 knit round? Or do I go directly to down below where it says SM at BOR?
Please note that the bolded instructions from now on
highlight the ribbed raglan seam portions.
Sleeve A
sm at BOR (the BOR is between the back of the sweater
and the left sleeve),
k1, p1, k1, pm 2, k17 (19) 21 (25) 27 (29) 33 (33) 35, pm
3, (k1, p1) 2 times, k1;
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
Knit the next round on the 4.5mm needles placing the markers as indicated. Work the ribbed section of the raglans as you come to them.
oh, sorry I forgot to mention the pattern and designer - it is the Before the Fall by Liv Ulven. I did the knitted next round but now am stuck again on the next part. I think I wonât be continuing unfortunately, because I donât have a clue about how to do the âmoss stitch instructionsâ part and have no knitting store/grandma to help! The pattern says to start the sweater with circulars, but then in the boxed instructions section mentions rs and wrong side. I will look for another pattern that has more information as Iâve never done a raglan before. thanks again for your answer!
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! Instead of âworkâ it would have saved so much angst if the designer simply wrote what you both have just said. It would be great if designers had more beginners test knit their patterns! Thank you again!
Oh, I like the contrast between the moss stitch body and stockinette sleeves! It should be easy to tell which part youâre working, once you get to the sleeves.
They use âworkâ when you just continue with whatever stitch or stitches youâre doing at any point in the pattern. It might be a holdover from when patterns were all printed and the publisher wanted to save paper or space.
When you get up to the raglan area, âworkâ could mean to do a whole round, using the various stitches for the different sections, rather than them having to specify âknit moss stitch for X stitches, then the raglan stitches, then stockinette for X stitches, then raglan stitchesâŠâ
