Help with sweater pattern

I don’t understand what this is telling me to do (its my first sweater). It’s from Adorable Knits for Tots by Zoe Mellor. It is a toddler’s sweater, it has been very straight forward until now.
This is the back of the sweater and up to this point I have ribbed a bottom edge and knitted a rectangle in st - st and ended with a ws row. There are 66 sts on the needle.
Here is where I am stuck:
“Shape back neck
Next row (RS) K20 sts, turn and cont on these sts only, leaving rem sts on a spare needle. (I understand this, its this next part)
Cont in st - st, cast/bind off 2 sts at beg of next row.
Cast/bind off rem 18 sts.”

Do I purl a row and then bind off 2, k a row and bind off rem sts?
Otherwise it seems like it says bind off 2 then bind off rem sts!? That doesn’t make sense.

Next prob,

“With RS facing, slip 26 sts at centre onto a holder, rejoin yarn to rem sts and k to end.
P1 row
Cont in st-st, cast/bind off 2 sts at beg of next row.
Cast/bind off rem 18 sts.”

I have 46 sts on the holder! Do I work these 26 sts and leave the other 20 on a holder for later?
Also, how do I rejoin the yarn? Will I understand it when I see it?

This is a lot to ask! I bow to everyone’s wisdom and generosity here!
Thanks you in advance!
Sarah B.

Cast off the first 2 stitches of the purl row as you turn for the neck shaping, and finish the row. Then cast off the remaining stitches on the knit row.

For the next section, the 26 stitches are the center stitches, which will be put on a holder for when you do the collar. Just slip them to a holder and worry about them later.

When you work on the other shoulder with the 20 remaining stitches, just start knitting with the new yarn. You can weave in the end later. Or, if the yarn isn’t too bulky, you can knit the first couple of stitches with both the yarn and the tail to secure it, and treat these double loops as one stitch on the next row.

Yeah! I think I get it! Thank you so much for you help!
