Help with Sun Ray Shawl Directions

I’m still a new knitter but wanted to try my hand at this shawl. I have read so much about it and thought it sounded like something I could do… I was reading my directions for the Sun Ray Shawl, I’m just about ready to start repeating 15-34 rows. when you start to repeat rows 15-34 is says to work additional stitches into pattern repeats as established. Can someone tell me what this means?

Thanks in advance for your help.

As it gets wider, you have to expand the pattern with it. The pattern looks like it does that for the first repeat of those rows. It might help to write out more directions if you need to.

Basically you’ll work the increased stitches as if they’ve always been there–working the right edge stitch as the stitch that would come before the established part, and continuing in pattern at the end. (inside the garter ridge)

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you so much, I will actually write out the directions and increases, maybe if I see it, it will make more sense to me. Thanks again.

I’m knitting the Sun Ray and about to start the repeat rows. I’m thoroughly confused, and your explanation didn’t clear it up for me. Can anyone tell me what to do???

I think the 2nd time you go through those rows, the repeat section is done twice, then the next time it’ll be 4 times… can’t remember exactly, but actually when you get there you’ll be able to figure it out. Do the edge sts, start the row, then when you get to the end of the sts on the first repeat, start the repeated sts over again until you’re about 2-6 sts from the center stitch, which you might want to mark so you know where it is. Explaining it is harder than figuring it out.

Thanks!!! I think I’m making too much out of it. I’ll start knitting and see LOL.

If you look at the charts for the shawl it has an area of stitches inside a box. Those are the repeat stitches you will do on each row. As your rows get longer you will do more and more of those repeat stitches. If you go to the next page after the charts it has the stitches written out for you.

Yeah, I finally figured it out. I think the instruction line “working additional sts into pattern repeats as established”, had me thrown off. I’m doing the repeats now and it is turning out lovely. Thanks!
