Believe it or not, I have made a pair of socks correctly. I started turning the heel wrong and ripped out to where I thought I should be. I have an incorrect stitch around where I picked up stitches to start the gusset. I think I started picking up on the right side of the heel flap. Am I right? I’ll try to add a picture.
From your picture I am not able to see anything different exactly there where the arrow is pointing. If you have some mistakes there, it must be tiny enough that nobody will notice it unless they very closely check it out.
Does your pattern call for the row of purl bumps on the outside of the sock or is that the mistake?
I’m not sure I understand where you are in the sock. Is the heel flap at the bottom of the photo? What pattern are you following?
I am doing the Patons Basic Sock pattern. It doesn’t have a row of purl. I started to turn the heel, but tore it back. I though I was in the right place. I finished turning the heel and then picked up all my stitches. That’s when I ended up with the bump. I just want to check what I did so I don’t make the same mistake again. I also ended up with the purl at the bottom of the heel.
Thank you for your help.
It may be similar to this Patons pattern without the stripes:

Both the heel flap and the heel turn end having completed a knit row. The working yarn strand is at the left and with the RS of the sock facing (don’t turn to the WS) pick up sts along the left edge of the heel, continue knitting the held instep sts and then pick up along the right edge of the heel. Since the RS is facing for this round, these are knit sts and won’t give you purl bumps.
Thank you so much for helping me. I think I see what to watch for so I don’t make the same mistake. I must have been on the WS and I believe I had my working yarn on the right.
