Help with shawl pattern

Hello knitters! I’m trying to knit a shawl but I’m confused just 3 rows in.

Cast on 24 stitches.
Row 1-2: knit
Row 3: k3, kfb, k1)x9, k3.

There should be 33 stitches at end of row 3. I can’t k3,kfb,k1 9 times because there’s not enough stitches. I’m guessing I’m reading it wrong? It’s called the Shield Maiden Knit Shawl by Kristin Omdahl.

The open parentheses is missing but should be here: Row 3: k3, ( kfb, k1)x9, k3.
Only repeat the kfb, k1 across the row to the last 3 sts. That stitch count works and leaves you with 33sts.
