Help with seperating legs on a shortie pattern

Hi! Im STILL working on my wool shortie pattern from little turtle knits… and IM STUCK AGAIN!

The pattern says

Split for Legs
Knit to 6 stitches
before FM2. Place the
last 8 stitches you
just knit on stitch
holder. Using the
method you prefer
for short
circumferences
(DPNs, 12" circ or
magic loop), Knit
across to 6 stitches
after BM1. Place the
next 8 stitches on
another stitch holder.

Ok… well…ummm if you say so… :verysad: :?? :?? :?? :verysad: :wall:

I did what it said… but I dont think I did something right. I went from my start of round marker to 6 stitched before Front Marker 2, then I took 8 stitches off my right needle that I had just knitted and placed them on a holder, then I knitted across to 6 stitches before back marker 1, and put the next 8 stitches off my LEFT needle on a holder as well… but was that right? Where was I suppost to switch to my 12’ circ? If I continued Id still be making a complete circle like I have it now so I figure its not right…

HELP!

Where are you in the pattern - top down and this is splitting the legs off? And what comes next?
