I’m making a Harry Potter scarf from http://knit.atypically.net/scarves/hogwarts/pattern.shtml
I was wondering how the scarf will turn out, since it says that it’s knit in the round. Won’t the two sides join together?
Also, is it ok if I use a 24 inch circular needle instead of 16?

You knit it as a tube, and if you don’t have a 16" needle, look at the magic loop video for how to use the 24" needle.

Sorry I’m not quite sure what you mean by tube?
It’s knit in the round so that it forms a long tubular shape.

Right, there won’t be any side edges. CO, then join the sts (by knitting into the first one you CO) and knit around and around.

Hmm…how is it a scarf if the two sides are connected?
When laid flat or worn it’s a scarf. It’s knit in the round to make it twice as thick.

It would be like knitting a scarf double width, then sewing the edges together. It’s a double thick fabric for extra warmth.
