Help with reading a pattern

Hi, I can you help me with what the following means please?
I have 24 stitches
Decrease 1 stitch at beginning of next and following 11 alternate rows. 12 stitches
Many thanks
Caroline

Hi

I would interpret that as decrease 1 stitch when you start the row, knit the next row without decreasing, decrease 1 stitch again when you start the next row, and continue in that manner until you have 12 stitches left on your needle.

Hi, thanks for your reply. So decrease 1 stitch every other row until I get the 12 stitches I need? but that would mean I have to do more that 12 rows altogether which doesnt make sense.

Sure! Yes, thats how I would normally read it. But if it doesn’t make sense…what is the pattern you are working?

I have attached the pattern below.
